Texas company to build 3 biofuel plants in Mississippi

Herald Democrat -- Texas-based KiOR, a company with plans to produce a crude oil substitute from wood chips and other biomass, will locate its first three facilities in Mississippi.

Gov. Haley Barbour and KiOR CEO Fred Cannon announced details of the venture Thursday, a day before lawmakers were set to return to the Capitol to approve incentives for the company.

Cannon said KiOR will become the first ever to use the catalytic conversion technology to produce the biofuel and sell it commercially. The process allows biomass, such as wood products and agricultural waste, to be converted to a high-quality renewable crude oil that can be used by refineries and to power vehicles, Cannon said.

Toyota has been pulling the "idle shell" out of mothballs for a while now. They're intending to go to production in 2011, and we're already two-thirds of the way to 2011.

State governments generally have their act together much more than Washington. It's not limited to Mississippi.

I'm from Missouri and seem to spend more and more time there post-retirement. I'd take Jay Nixon (no known relationship to Richard Nixon) 99% of the time.

Well, guess what?

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi has resumed the process of bringing their idle shell to full production.

They're diametrically opposite from Government Motors, who have this certain knack about ramping plants from full production to idle shell.

Announcement from the State of Mississippi

I'm glad they're doing this, they need the jobs, we should be doing more of it, doesn't really need subsidies; maybe grants and loans would speed things up a bit though.

I suspect that Barbour's efforts on behalf of Mississippi will bear a much higher percent of success than anything that has emerged from the US Congress over the last two to three years.

Given a choice of trusting Barbour versus the US Congress, I would take Barbour 99% of the time. Glad to see this type of technology going into full scale commercial production.

It's good to read about more efforts for alternatives to gas, especially renewable sources.

"... to approve incentives for the company...."

.

Yet another example of Republicans "giving away the store", apparently Barbour hasn't learned any lessons from the failed $250+ million giving away to Toyota under his watch, that sits as an idle shell, in north Mississippi...
