Think the fix is in on gas prices? New report may back you up

KCBY -- PORTLAND, Ore. - According to a new report, gas prices in the Northwest never should have gotten so high and may have been inflated on purpose.

KATU News has also learned that big oil may have been making $50 million a day from drivers in Oregon and Washington.

The price at the pump should reflect crude oil, which is way down. But while the rest of the country has enjoyed saving close to 20 cents a gallon, drivers in Oregon and Washington have had to cough up 65 cents more.

So much for the cost of oil being the deciding factor in price at the pump.

What I'd like to know is why gas prices are within 10-15% of their all time highs when crude is only about 60-65% of its all time high.

For the Upper Midwest, lower gas prices were fleeting

2:35 PM - June 15, 2012 by Bob Collins MPR News (Minnesota Public Radio)

Twin Cities gas prices increased another 10 cents a gallon today -- that's a 30-cent run-up in a week. But that's not the story; this is the story.

The price of a gallon of diesel fuel is now equal to -- or, in many cases, less than -- the price of a gallon of regular unleaded.

Since September of 2004, diesel has been higher than gasoline, mostly because of worldwide demand for diesel, tight refining capacity, the transition to ultra-low sulfur fuel and a federal excise tax that's 6 cents higher than for gasoline.

This week the Energy Information Agency lowered its projections for the cost of both diesel and gasoline, citing a weakening economy.

But that doesn't explain why one fuel is dropping and the other is going up. Apparently, it's not just us (Twin Cities/ Minnesota). In Ohio, gasoline dealers say they're frustrated because the prices are going up while the price of crude is going down. They contend wholesalers and oil companies are trying to make up for the money they lost earlier in the year. (Trying to make up for the money they lost earlier in the year? So they recoup that loss by passing it along to the consumer. One man’s loss is another man’s gain).

Economists had hoped lower gasoline prices -- other than California, Minnesota has some of the highest gas prices in the country -- would get people to spend more.

At $3.79, the price of gasoline is only 4 cents away from the highest average price in Minnesota in more than a year.

Meanwhile, for truckers -- especially independent truckers -- the lower prices go right to the bottom line.

Antitrust suits can only be brought when there is evidence enough to prosecute. They get past this by only having the heads get together, and having real legitimate business that gets reported. They just don't mention the real reason was to set a new schedule for prices, including all the unscheduled world events that they will use for excuses to push up prices.

Its like (or is) organized crime. If no one talks, no one is prosecuted. I wonder if the big oil companies have enforcers and kill people who may let the feds know what is really going on? Seems plausible.

Look at the facts. (Meaning prices versus oil exploration discovery and reduction of costs due to maturing technology. i.e. Prices go up while supply goes up in relation to demand, and costs go down.) There has been collusion to fix prices since 1960, if not sooner. Perhaps they used industry rebuilding after WW2 to set up the whole scheme.

Of course the fix is in. As soon as oil goes up so does gas but when oil goes down gas prices follow very slowly if at all.

They have been greedy across N. America for some time! The billions/trillions of dollars they have taken from the average citizen has been beyond astronomical. Place's like the U.S. Northwest and Canada have been particular greedy!
