of course, no one seems to complain about oil derricks or gas wellheads and they make a lot of noise too.

I guess noise in the cities is a "necessary evil" but noise from wind turbines (which actually are productive while city noise is not) is not acceptable?

Noise is one thing but the real shame is the threat to wildlife.
Particularly egregious is the federal government hypocrisy when it comes to the enforcement of the laws pertaining to Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles and other wildlife killed by turbines.

Wind turbines make noise, ground vibrations and when the angle of the sun is just right, light flicker reflections. Locate any and all wind turbines well away from populated areas and any nearby residences. Strange illnesses, conditions and headaches can occur when living too close to active wind turbines. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible! The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

http://bostonglobe.com/metro/2012/05/21/cape-wind-foe-koch-chips-for-romney/KxaoZrEXnBjE6CFlngqU5L/story.htmlWilliam I. Koch, the Osterville summer resident and fossil fuel magnate who helped bankroll the opposition to the Cape Wind energy project, has emerged as a key backer of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, donating $2 million to Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting Romney’s drive for the White House. The donations rank Koch’s privately held Oxbow Corp. third among companies that have donated the most to Restore Our Future, behind Perry Homes, the Texas home-building company, and Bain Capital, the Boston private equity firm that Romney cofounded in 1984.
Brad Goldstein, Koch’s spokesman, said Koch is supporting Romney because of a personal relationship that dates to the early 1980s, when Romney was running Bain Capital and Koch was living full time in Massachusetts, and also because of Koch’s disagreements with President Obama’s tax and energy policies. . .

It's not the environmentalists that are complaining about wind turbines, LostToo, it's the NIMBY people.
Not In My Backyard. Well, here's the choice, a wind turbine or a fracking gas well.
The wind turbine doesn't seem so bad now, huh?

I hear what you're saying HA4CNN but until we come up with widespread energy storage technology this is the way it is. We need both fossil fuel power plants AND renewables plus a smarter electricity transmission system. We all know that wind and solar are intermittant energy sources but they are not meant to be used as baseload power. Meanwhile, smaller natural gas powered generators do a great job of adding electricity to the system on demand to pick up the slack when the sun is not out and the wind is not blowing.
The problems with renewables will be solved in the future but we need to start rolling them out NOW.

ExplorerWA -
You posted, "It seems the environmental officials don't like anything that generates power."
???????????????????????
My question, is the question only about the "greenies" or, are the "fosil fuel fanatics" also way off base?
